The Benefits of Warm Lemon Water

What drink is crazy inexpensive to make, keeps your skin glowing, helps with digestion and weight loss and is packed with vitamin C? (Hint: it’s not a secret potion whose recipe is sold exclusively on some late-night infomercial.)

It’s lemon water!

A glass of lemon juice contains less than 25 calories. It’s a rich source of key nutrients like calcium, potassium, vitamin C, pectin fiber and trace amounts of iron and vitamin A. It can help maintain a healthy immune system and contains therapeutic and antibacterial properties.

Warm lemon water serves as the perfect good morning drink. Sometimes I drink mine with just lemon juice and water, but most mornings I also add raw local honey and grated ginger.

Here’s how:

  1. Squeeze the juice of one lemon (or half of a large lemon) into a cup or mug.
  2. Grate in some fresh ginger. (Ginger hack: peel the root and freeze it to make it super easy to grate without the stringy bits you get by grating it when it’s fresh. It lasts longer, too!)
  3. Fill the cup with hot water.
  4. Stir in a teaspoon of raw, local honey.
  5. Enjoy while you ease into your day.

So, make yourself a cup of warm lemon water and read on for more benefits from the key ingredients in this morning super-elixir.
